Overcoming Barriers Through Dedication
Fatoumata Sillah joined aspire2work in 2015 doing an Entry L3 ESOL & Maths course. She had recently moved to Leeds from Spain and didn’t speak much English, which was her main barrier. Despite this, Fatoumata did exceptionally well in class and attended every session. She was able to pass her English writing, speaking & listening and reading exams. She also achieved her entry level award in ESOL skills for life in April 2016. She showed so much confidence and competency during her Entry L3 that she was put on a level 1 English course.
However, she was not done there. Half way through her ESOL course, Fatoumata decided to join the Business Administration course. She had shown a passion for office work and was very keen to complete a work placement in an administrator role. She managed to secure a placement at the National Careers Service, where she received very positive feedback. She enjoyed it so much that she has continued with her work placement alongside a part-time job at a hotel all whilst attending her aspire2work course. This shows how dedicated she is and how much she enjoys her time learning and working.
Looking forward, Fatoumata has been accepted to Leeds City College and will start in September. By then, she will have passed her Business Admin, English & Maths courses and gained each and every qualification she set out to achieve.
The aspire2work team are really proud of Fatoumata and are so happy to see her progress. It has been a successful journey and she has come so far from the learner who started with us, to the learner leaving us. Well done!
