Bradford students impress at Lord Mayor’s Dinner Club
26 September, 2018
The Canteen, a ‘profit for purpose’ enterprise selling homemade food to the public whilst training our next generation of Hoteliers, Chefs and Waitresses & Waiters, was proud to host the recent monthly Lord Mayor’s Dinner Club.
Each month a group of local business men and women meet with the Lord Mayor and have the opportunity to be wined and dined whilst they catch up with one another and network.
Two leaners on the aspire2work Hospitality & Catering course, Jordan Wilson and Leah Bairstow, supported by Joe Grant, Manager, and Katie Jenkins, Catering Tutor, cooked and served up a Moroccan feast for the VIPs. This gave the learners an excellent opportunity to put all the skills they have learnt in the adjoining training facility, The Cookery School, into practice.
This could have been a daunting experience for the young learners but they rose to the challenge and absolutely loved the event, receiving fantastic feedback, including this from John Cole, who attended the dinner. “Everything went very well indeed. People gathered on tables sharing the food out and having a thoroughly good natter. The people I spoke to were very pleased with the food - nice and tasty. Please could you pass on my thanks and congratulations to the team.”
The guests were really impressed with the standard of food and service and with The Canteen’s ethos, which gives young people a great opportunity to start a rewarding career in the hospitality & catering sector, which currently has a growing skills gap.
After the event Joe said "I am very proud of what the learners are achieving on our hospitality course. A night like this really gives them the platform to showcase just how capable they are and to demonstrate everything they have learnt. We are really passionate about what we are trying to achieve at the canteen and its nights like this that makes all the hard work worth it. Bring on the next one!”
The free aspire2work Hospitality & Catering course is available to 16-19 year olds. Call 0330 111 0035 for details.
