Taking the Fear Out of Job and College Interviews
As part of a very successful Career Education Programme at Abbey Grange Academy Shine Careers Professional, Glyn Ellis from the Shine Careers team led a full day of sessions helping year 11 students to be better prepared for job and college interviews.
Using the video “The Interview Doctor” and showing a Monty Python job Interview Sketch, Glyn helped students understand what not to do in an interview as well as how to make the best impression.
The students spent a day looking at all the post 16 options and considering how to make good decisions. Time was given to thinking about the subjects that the Russell Group of University suggest can be good to study for anyone wanting to go to university. The following day, students visited the Careers Fair in the school hall. Lots of large employers came along to tell students of the many opportunities in their company. Students went away enthused and understanding that they can take control and influence their future.
Since these events, students have said how much they learned from and benefitted from these sessions. The combination of information sessions, meeting employers and having a one to one careers interview with a guidance professional really makes a difference to a student.
