Finding a style that suits
Katie had reached a crossroads in her education, having recently relocated from Scotland Katie felt unsure what direction to take her studies
She was enrolled on a media course that she didn’t really enjoy and was looking for a change. A friend had told Katie about the aspire2work study programme and suggested that she got in touch with Sally Roche, Engagement Advisor at Aspire-i.
Katie had always dreamed of being a hairdresser and after a brief chat with an Engagement Advisor, aspire2work transferred her onto a hairdressing study programme. Katie already had a Saturday job at Ingrid Dawn, a local Bradford hairdressing salon. The owner Dawn Dixon, was very supportive of Katie’s aspirations and worked with aspire2work to offer her work placement opportunities as part of her study programme.
Katie lived independently. This can be a challenging time for a young person and Katie was facing some personal and financial barriers. With the help and guidance from her tutors and Engagement Advisers Katie was able to resolve these issues whilst staying motivated.
Having completed her Level 2 in hairdressing she has now been offered an apprenticeship at Ingrid Dawn. Katie has aspirations to set up her own salon. She is working with the aspire2work team on her start-up business plan..
"I’m unsure where I would be without the help and support of aspire2work and Ingrid Dawn, I would not be where I am now without them." - Katie, Student.
