Eli came to study Motor Vehicle Maintenance at our Barkerend Opportunity Centre; he had no previous experience in this area and had previously struggled in social situations and making friends, his home life too had been somewhat turbulent. At the beginning of the aspire2work course he had difficulties with time management and struggled with interactions with other students. But after several weeks working closely with Support Worker, Donna, he soon started to enjoy his time with us.
He had regular tutorials and he was making huge steps forward towards his qualification and as an added bonus his time management skills massively improved as well. Meaning he was always on time ready to get stuck in and learn something new. It was great to see his confidence in himself improve significantly within our setting and see him gain more and more social skills, making friends with the other learners.
Having achieved his qualifications he decided that he wanted to join the armed forces, the skills he had acquired with us helped him to pass his selection process and he has now been offered a place.
Well done Eli, we’re all very proud!
