In the Army Now
Luke joined the aspire2work programme on our military preparation course in September 2015, to achieve his goal of joining the British Army. Luke lives independently and he and his girlfriend are raising a child. He also has a rare skin condition which makes his hands cracked and sore. This has put a big strain on him, financially and mentally, but he has continued to attend both classroom based and practical lessons.
Luke completed his Level 2 English and progressed onto his BTEC level 2 (Diploma in Sport and Leisure). He also completed work experience at a Ministry of Defence site, which included talking about himself in an ice breaker, group work on a command task and completing a gruelling assault course.
During his course, Luke has completed several sporting activities including a 1.5 mile run around Roundhay Park and designing and delivering his own fitness studio course to the rest of the group. Being part of the sports group has increased his confidence and he has shown excellent leadership skills.
We’re pleased to say that Luke has now passed his Army selection and is busy preparing himself for phase 1 and 2 which is likely to take place in Catterick in November.
