Jack pursues dream of owning his own café
Jack Perks has always dreamt of owning his own café. To make that dream a reality he knew he would need to acquire some skills so enrolled on the Customer Service course, part of the aspire2work study programme.
Jack had some personal issues which meant even enrolling was a big achievement. He had previously been thrown out of 3 schools before attending Brian Jackson College. Jack saw school as a battle field as he struggled with his temper. In his final year at Brian Jackson College he adapted his behaviour and found more positive ways to express himself. However, when leaving the college he struggled to move on despite several interviews with various training providers.
The turning point came when he enrolled on the aspire2work programme at YCC. He attended the course every day and demonstrated great time keeping. After a diagnostic result of entry 2 he achieved level 1 maths and level 2 English. He went on to achieve a Level 1 in customer service. Jack then completed his work experience in Cafe Jaxx, moving on to complete a traineeship.
Jack has come such a long way, and his tutors were so impressed, that he was put forward for the High Achiever of the year award at the aspire2work awards 2016. The judging panel were equally impressed with Jack’s achievements and he won the award!
Well done Jack!
