David is off to a flying start into a catering career
Before David joined the Hospitality & Catering aspire2work course at The Cookery School and Canteen, he attended Bradford college and studied carpentry and brick laying. Unfortunately David did not enjoy the amount of people on the course or feel as though he fitted in. David has always been interested in catering and heard that aspire-igen had opened up a catering course last year so applied to join.
David is currently studying an NVQ level 2 diploma in hospitality services. As part of his experience on the course David has attended a work placement at Provident for 4 weeks as a kitchen assistant, preparing meat, fish and salads.
As well as this David has played an integral role in some of our recent events. These include cooking and serving for 75 delegates at this year’s annual Inspiring women changemakers awards as well as preparing the canapes for this year’s aspire 2 work awards, which was attended by the Lord Mayor. David will also be helping out at our upcoming Christmas parties and the Social Enterprise Yorkshire and the Humber Awards evening.
David has thoroughly enjoyed the course and now knows that catering is where he wants to make his future. Once he has completed the course he would love to go on and either find a job or an apprenticeship.
David says “I like the atmosphere of the course as it feels more personal. I feel I have learnt more as a result. It’s less like a classroom and much more hands on. I feel more positive about the future and would recommend the course to others".
