National Career Service team visit Job Fair at Catterick Garrison
Julie and Neil from the National Careers Service team visited the Job Fair at Catterick Garrison which was well attended not only by those in uniform but also their families looking for jobs and/or learning in the area. The fairs are held a couple of times a year and it is good to be involved in what is the largest forces Garrison town in Europe.
Adrienne on the right of the picture moved from the National Careers Service York team to work for North Yorkshire County council Adult Learning Services in the area, so it was great to work alongside her again and catch up on news!
National Careers Service visit holiday park to deliver interview workshop
Simon Johnson from the National Careers Service team in York has been delivering interview techniques at Primrose Valley Holiday Park, as part of some sector-based work academies, in partnership with Tyro training, for a number of months. The workshop covers interview preparation and how to conduct effective interview research. This concludes with a mock interview where core competencies that arise in interviews for different roles are covered. The feedback has been great. Participants who have attended report that they feel more confident about the interview process.
The Scarborough National Careers Service team have always worked closely with Tyro training who offer distance as well as class room-based training that meets the needs of our customers on the East Coast and look forward to continuing this successful partnership.
Experience counts in York!
Experience Counts (York) CIC started in October 2016. They deliver five week programmes of weekly half day workshops, aimed at individuals aged 50 plus who are unemployed or at risk of unemployment and are seeking a return to employment or a move into volunteering, further training or self-employment. The National Careers Service team take part in the sessions by delivering an awareness raising presentation on the support they can offer as part of each Experience Counts programme.
The programmes are delivered from Colliergate or in a community setting such as Tang Hall. In the past 20 months EC has worked with 87 participants and we are pleased to say we will be partnering with Julie, Jackie and Simon from the programme in the future.

Scarborough Duo train for Race for Life
Jeni and Rachel from the Scarborough office are running Race for Life this year - training hard through busy schedules and broken ribs!
Rachel says "we are running with Rachel's daughter Mary and Julie, who left the Scarborough team for a sunnier life recently (we miss her and are jealous!). None of us are strong runners but will be working really hard to beat our PB from last year. If you can sponsor us, even a small amount, we would really appreciate it. Cancer Research is a cause which is particularly important to the Scarborough team".
