Bradford Manufacturing Week holds its launch event
A launch event was held in May to give employers and schools more information about Bradford Manufacturing Week which will take place from 8th to 12th October. The week will give schools the opportunity to take part in work experience placements, site tours and hear talks from manufacturing companies from across the Bradford area.
Employers heard from Bradford Grammar School student Nia Nura who spoke about the benefits of work experience. They were also given information on the logistics involved and the support on offer to schools and manufacturers to make sure that everyone gets the most out of the initiative.

Shine supports primary schools
The Shine Careers Service currently work with 35 schools and colleges around the Yorkshire & Humber region and beyond, mostly with secondary schools and post-16 providers. Did you know that Shine is also available to primary schools?
One of their Leeds secondary schools is an all-through community school. They provide opportunities for Year 6 learners making the transition to secondary school, to consider the relationship between learning in school and the wider world of work. Shine can also be adapted to the needs of individual primary schools. They deliver classroom activities on topics such as addressing gender stereotyping in careers, working in STEM careers, or raising career aspirations.
Shine are part of the aspire-igen offer for Bradford schools funded by the Opportunity Area Essential Life Skills Programme. This includes primary schools, who are able to select activities that will help pupils to develop essential skills for life and work. Shine are excited to be delivering their 'Future Dreams' activity for a Primary School in Keighley who have selected their session from the Essential Life Skills Programme for all of their Year 6 pupils. For more information about Shine email email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Richard Mccann inspires learners
Richard Mccann, a motivational speaker who spoke at our last Company Day in Hull, came to our Bradford Opportunity Centre in May to share his story of triumph over adversity with learners from Bradford and Leeds.
Richard talked about how he managed to turn his life around, after hitting the self destruct button and getting involved in criminality following a traumatic event in his life when he was a child. The learners packed out the event space and were inspired by his 'I Can' attitude. The aspire2work programme is designed to help learners realise their aspirations and dreams . Richard's visit will hopefully have instilled the confidence in learners that the only limit to acheivement is yourself. Believe in yourself and you can do it! He defintely motivated this learner who gave this feedback following the session:
"I think that the day of meeting Richard McCann I realised that in my life, nothing is impossible. His life was hard but I believe that everything happened for a reason and that reason was motivating people. In life comes a moment when you meet people and you want to be like them. This was happening to me after meeting Richard even if his life was hard, now he has an amazing opportunity to change a lot of souls. So I am very grateful because I met this amazing person. Thank you Richard McCann".

Lauren gets a pre-wedding surprise
Lauren Hendrie, Aspire-International Manager, is getting married on 16th June. As is customary, there was an office collection and staff gathered secretly to do a presentation to Lauren. It's fair to say that Lauren was taken by surprise!
Once she'd recovered from the shock, she opened her gifts, many of which were inspired by her forthcoming honeymoon to Kenya and loved them!
We wish you and Andrew a very happy wedding day Lauren and very best wishes for the future.
