Opportunity Centre launched by a Viking
26 March, 2015
Aspire-igen, part of regional careers organisation Careers Yorkshire & the Humber, has opened a new Opportunity Centre in York. The centre will be the home for the York provision of the National Careers Service and will offer expert support, advice and guidance to help people from the area into learning and work.
On Tuesday 17th March, the centre was officially launched by one of York’s renowned Vikings to showcase the services on offer to representatives from local schools, colleges and training providers; as well as Connexions, Jobcentre Plus and the Princes Trust.
York College were impressed with the “Welcoming and professional staff in new premises which are much more accessible to all”.
The highlight was a first hand look at the Careers Yorkshire and the Humber Inspiration Portal – a joint development involving Aspire-igen, to encourage relationships between people and employers. The portal aims to bring the job market to life with a bank of inspiring careers resources and labour market information.
Caroline Harrison, CEO Aspire-igen Group & Board Member of Careers Yorkshire and the Humber outlined the breadth of other opportunities the new centre will provide for the local area
“We are delighted to be able to offer the National Careers Service from our new Opportunities Centre right here in the heart of this historic city. Our advisors have a wealth of specialist local knowledge, and it was a pleasure to welcome ‘Ragnar’, who showed us all the very special job of “Interactive Costumed Visitor Host” at the Jorvik Centre – and is just one example of a very local opportunity. Many thanks to the York Archaeological Trust for allowing him to spend some time with us”
The Opportunity Centre is located at 18-19 Colliergate, York.
