Celebrating National Careers week
05 March, 2018
National Careers Week (5th - 10th March) is a celebration of the very best of careers guidance and opportunities available across the UK. Naturally, as one of the leading providers of employability training and guidance in Yorkshire and the Humber, aspire-igen will be supporting this with a number of activities.
The primary focus of National Careers Week is to promote the importance of good careers education in schools and colleges. As well as providing personalised guidance for pupils in their schools, our Shine team, who provide CEIAG for schools and colleges across Yorkshire and the Humber, will be providing 1-1s for learners on the aspire2work programme to discuss their career options and help them map out their future.
The Shine team, along with aspire-international, will also be exhibiting at the National Careers Guidance Show in Leeds on 8th March to talk to careers professionals working with young people, students, graduates and adults about how aspire-igen can support them. Our Inspiration Partner Coordinators from the National Careers Service will be out and about in schools, with activities including giving an information talk to Year 12 at Withernsea High School about Degree Apprenticeships and attending a Progression evening for potential students to Franklin College, Grimsby. Claire Grimwood will be the opening speaker at the event to talk to parents and students about their options after year 13.
As well as supporting schools and colleges, our National Careers Service team will be involved in many activities for adults too. As well as running our usual careers advice sessions and workshops across the region, the Humber National Careers Service will be attending the Women into Manufacturing & Engineering event on 10th March.
These kind of activities obviously don’t just take place during careers week for aspire-igen, we are pleased to support young people & adults across all walks of life throughout the year.
National Apprenticeship Week
The 11th National Apprenticeship Week (#NAW 2018) will also run from 5th to 9th March.
We’ll be celebrating the fantastic work that our FutureJobs Apprenticeship Ambassadors have been doing, promoting apprenticeships, completing communication training and mentoring those starting on apprenticeships.
Our York National Careers Service team are joining forces with our FutureJobs team and will be exhibiting at two apprenticeship events, both on 8th March. The York Apprenticeship Recruitment event takes place at City of York Council West Offices and the other at Selby College. Both take place 4.30 - 7pm. Make sure you pop along and say hello if you’re there!
